Teachers....
Dec 4th, 2009, 7:46am

I think it was a toss up between Mr. Seweer , Mr. Jones, and of course Mrs. Staub.  All three of them treated me like an adult - making me think, work hard, and be responsible for what I wrote, what I thought, & how I acted.  Jones would make Prob and Stats FUN.  We laughed about things and he challenged us every day in every way...to get an A you had to have 95%+.  Mr. Seewer kept asking 'why, how' and 'prove it'.  We all know what Mrs. Staub did for us and it remains a treat to keep in touch with her daughter via FB.

I think there were others that made some kind of mark: Mr Gentile in geometry who sometimes took a whole class to relate stories about growing in NY and then work us like dogs the next day to catch up.   I learned to type (very well I might add) because of Mrs. Waggener.

'Pi R Jones' was the best. I had him for 7th grade math and then for several classes at Park Hills. (He took a two year sabatical to go to Louisiana for his Masters, so sadly he was unavailable my sophomore year. I thought I heard he now has his Doctorate.) I loved how he challenged the class, yet made it so much fun at the same time. (Who can forget the famous problem of which is greater---- the number of drops of water in the ocean or possible desk arrangements in the classroom.)  I remember the last semester in '72, we finished up Analytic Geometry two weeks early, so he taught us calculus off the top of his head. What a guy.

For me, it was Mr. George Armstrong!  I think it had as much to do with his "Tom Selleck" mustache, as the fun we had in his class.  God bless him, he made sure that I actually manged to make something on that pottery wheel. Or, am I thinking of Patrick Swayze in Ghost??  Anyway, he's the one that definitely sticks out in my mind and I bet he's still hot today.  Cheesy
