Who was your favorite Elementary teacher?
Jan 26th, 2009, 6:21am

We moved to Fairborn from New England during the winter of 1972.  The following year one of my teachers was a tall, red headed fellow named Jerry Baker.  What ever happened to him?  I had him for reading class and home-room was Mrs. Toner [Toner the boner].

My brother Dave was subbing in Fairborn a few years back and said Mr Baker was a principal/assist? principal  at the Jr High now. Wonder if he still has the "whaler" (big paddle with holes). Tho I am sure it is no longer P.C. to use, it would make a nice momento for his office decor...He was a great teacher , Just taught my son helping verbs, he was really frustrated, until I made it a game like Mr Baker did for us in 6th Grade!! He'd be flattered that we still remember him... My brother Dave never had him but he remebered having all 3 of the rest of us Fletchers.. have a good one! Jane Fletcher-Kolleda

Probably Mrs. Leppo. (Paula's mom). She was great. Is South Elementary still there?

South Ementary, my primary alma mater, is still indeed there. It features a newly widened parking area for the buses on Maple.

I had Miss Curliss in 6th grade. I had determined in myself to dislike her--I don't know why. This hard, determined edge of mine probably ruined good opportunities for me, and if I could apologise now I would do so.

I've had the opportunity to see Principal Horne in recent years. He's become a friend of my father, through their church connections.

I ran into Mr. Riddle around 1982, and I would have liked to have had him as a teacher.

I went to Five Points, both elementary and junior high.  My favorite was Mr Baker.  Funny guy and a good teacher.

My favorite elementary school teacher was Mrs. Farley.  I lived in McLean, Virginia (my father was stationed at the Pentagon) and attended Chesterbrook Elementary School.  She was my 4th grade teacher.  She had 6 kids of her own and was just a great teacher who loved children and encouraged each child and brought out the best in them.  She also smoked a cigar (my brother saw her outside of school one day smoking one).

I recall several favorites from Palmer and South School. Ms Layton, Mrs Woods, Mrs. Goodwin, Mrs. Howey, Miss Cotton, Mrs. McDavid!! I have probably bothed the prefixes. Mr. Horne was the Principal. I am also recalling a beautiful blonde Gym teacher-anyone remember her name?

If you are talking about the gym teacher from Palmer/South school that was Mrs. Barns.  She always had the blond hair and full makeup.

She was a hottie (and at 12 years old, I didn't even know what a hottie was). I think she jump-started my puberty. Roll Eyes

Except for spending K and 1st grade at Central (for some odd reason), I was a Five Points student up to HS.

My favorite had to be Mr. Bogan (1979 timeline for me). He was a younger gentlemen who made class not only fun and interesting, but 'cool'. I remember him deciding that since they were going to teach us square dancing lessons, he would teach us disco dancing. WHY we were told we had to learn square dancing in school is beyond me to this day.
