Okay Andy-here it goes. Please don't hate me. There are only two others that know this, my wife, and Rick Swinford. It was indeed Bernice-it took me a year gather the courage to say hello. Also Carol Sloas-the first girl I ever kissed-WOW what fun between classes in the hall by my locker.

Wow, Rob, I had NO idea!  You should've asked me out!  And NO, Andy doesn't hate you, he - like me - considers it a compliment.   And CAROL - you naughty girl.  I love this.  35 years later, the truth comes out.  Thank you, Rob, that made my day!  Wink

Secret crushes, eh?  Thousands really, but there were three people that thrilled me to be in their presence-----Jaye Stansbury, Dena Henderson, and Debbie Bushnell. These were three of the nicest people I had ever met. I was fortunate enough to hang out with Jaye and her friends, and spent summers out at Green Acres Swim Club with Dena. I met Debbie in Mrs. Maples' 6th grade class when she moved to Fairborn from Hawaii, and I was gaga over her all through high school. (For show-and-tell she did a hula dance with authentic grass skirt.) One of the highlights for me was when I was in charge of Park Hills first Homecoming in '71----all three were Queen candidates, and all three just happened to call me the night before. I talked to each for about an hour, talking about hopes and dreams and what it would mean to each of them. Let me tell you, I was in heaven. (BTW, Jaye was the first Homecoming Queen.)

It's funny, but I was the Class Clown, never afraid to interupt class with a joke. I was president of the Student Council, wrote for the Paper, played sports, knew most everybody in school. And because of all that, I don't think anyone realized just how shy and scared I was. I wish I had been able to tell those three ladies how much they meant to me.

OK, people have been emailing me for months asking me to divulge MY secret crush.  So...I have to 'fess up.

Karen Eassa.  There, I said it.  I first met her in the 7th grade at Five Points, and had a crush on her all through High School.  Of course she didn't know it; I didn't have the courage to speak to her, let alone let her know I thought she was the most gorgeous creature to walk the face of the earth!  Can you imagine going through 6+ years of being totally enamored with somebody, but couldn't tell them?  Every time I got near her I got a bad case of "Cliff Claven Disease" - I started speaking Swahili and couldn't complete a sentence!  Every guy I knew had the hots for her, and I was such a nobody that I knew I didn't stand a chance.

I remember seeing her at the '77 10-Year reunion; she STILL looked gorgeous...and I STILL couldn't walk up and speak to her!  I have no idea where she is now...but it would certainly be a trip if she showed up at the "All-Class Reunion" this summer!

Jo Bocko...no doubt about it!  Too bad she was going out with Jeff Cross, and my good friend Pedro had the hots for her too!
Funny what we don't do then what we would do now, like ask...

Yep!  Me, too! Shy, sweet, charming, adorable Roy Colvin.  Where is Roy??

I remember a lot of really cute guys at PHHS, but Roy and I sat next to each other in a couple of classes and really had fun.

Shawn Quinn wrote on Feb 13th, 2009, 3:52am:
I always found the shy, quiet guys like Mike Bland('77) and Roy Colvin('78) quite endearing. Part of their appeal was that they had no idea how charming they were and were clueless that many girls would have jumped at the chance to say yes if asked out on a date. Like Mike and Roy, my brother  is  shy, kind, and a really nice guy, so perhaps those personality traits resonated with me.
