I Remember...
Jan 18th, 2009, 7:19am

For me, this one's a toss up.  We had a blast during those late-night play rehearsals.  Most of us went to school all day, had jobs after school, then had to be back at rehearsal that evening.  We'd get out about 11pm, then had to be back up for school the next day.  And yes, we did our homework too!  (At least most of us did!)

Same for Valhalla rehearsals.  Especially at Christmas, when we would perform 4-5 nights a week.  School, then work, then rehearsal, then performance.  Every Christmas season still brings up those memories.

Could I keep up with that pace now?  No friggin' way!  At least not without some pharmaceutical assistance...  Wink

One thing I remember, although it's not the only thing - was having my art shown in the "new section" hallway.  It was a total surprise, I got to school on a Monday morning, and someone told me that I was the featured artist.  My work was up for about a week, and I actually sold one of my drawings to a teacher.   I don't remember who it was!!

Mine was definitely playing sports.  I played baseball in Jr. High, but that was it.  My Freshman year I had some friends talk me into going out for Wrestling.  I feel in love with it.  At the banquet I was named "Most Improved Wrestler".  It was one of my proudest moments walking up there to receive my trophy.

Yeah, Mr. Welty was pretty cool. He got even cooler when he picked a hot young chick to marry...  ha ha. OH, That would be me!  My best memories include writing my own hall passes so I could go to the art rooms, or sometimes over to Baker, or just about anywhere I wanted to go!  And racing my maverick from one school to the other (cheering stuff) down Trebein Road and going airborne, just for fun.  You guys never knew the stuff I did....

One day we were cutting class and Toshi Rothfuss and I sneaked into the band room and she played Led Zeppelin's "The Rain Song" for me on the piano. It was sublime.

Putting the Volkswagon in the middle of the commons for our sr. prank was pretty cool.  Doug Zink stealing Baker's bell. Winning the league championship in football. Dating Debbie Jasinski (she was only there our freshman year and then moved to Mass.) and Patty Lassiter (sophomore thru graduation and then almost though college graduation).  Also the great relationship the football team had with the cheerleaders.  We were lucky to have them.  And of course cruising around the summer before sophomore year in Murray's dad's car.  We were both 15.  Grin

My top memory is stealing the bell from Baker, too!  TerryC, do you mean Doug Stutz?  I think he might have been with us.  I don't remember a Doug Zink being involved.  We stole it in the spring of '80, our senior year.

Now, if Doug Zink stole it another time before or after us, I can tell you this - he did not do it alone.  It is not a one person job.  That thing is HEAVY.  There were five or six of us.

I had a great time at PHHS with all students and the teachers from 1976 though 1979. Mr. Wilkerson could throw a basketball and hit his target across the gym floor. Mr. Grove's drafting classes if you did not take any of his classes you missed out, It did not matter what class we took it was fun most teachers went with the joke and we all had a great laugh. THANK YOU ALL!
Who was it that put the tires over the flag pole? and the pigs were let go durring the school hours in the commons. Hundreds of house for sale signs was put up on Baker Highs school lawn.
I was a Cross Country Runner and will never forget the bus rides, Races and friendships made. The cheer leaders that supported us and all they did for us.    Thank you!
I also had fun running track With coach Ackerman, Dave West and the other coaches and teachers that came out to support us. This kind of leadership is what has made us what we are today! I thank all of you that accompanied me on dates, Dances and other activities. I look back and see the friendships made over the years and wonder whats happened to you. I look foreward to reading more from others and hope to have a few minutes to write and let you know more about my thoughts and memories...

Lots of great memories...but one that really stands out was all the streaking and watching the boys track team "streak" through the trails in the woods just behind my house on Southlawn.  It was the dead of winter and with no leaves on the tress [i]everything[i] was exposed!  Grin

I also remember Friday night dance contests and "Timmy" Thompson dancing his pants off to win.  I remember Garry and I actually won one night.
