Let Us Know Of Problems...
Jan 17th, 2009, 11:19am

It's been many weeks in the works, but the ParkHillsGrads.com web site is ONLINE!  We've put a lot of work into this project, and we've tried to work out as many bugs, quirks, squeaks and rattles as possible.  But...as with any site like this...things are bound to come up.

With so many web browsers available today, and with so many "personal settings" options, web sites don't always look and behave the same way on everybody's computer.  So...we ask that if you run into any major problems, let us know so we can try to fix them.  No guarantees...but we'll do our best!

The time on the website is incorrect.  I know it's trivial but I'm kinda anal about stuff like that.....other than that it looks great!!! Grin

Actually, you set the time according to where you live and where your internet ISP is located.  You can set it to the correct time by going into your profile (the User CP button at the top of the page) and clicking on the Options tab.  There you have the ability to set your time zone.

For instance, I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and have mine set to GMT/UTC+0 (Universal Time Coordinated).  Just play around with it a little and you'll eventually get a BINGO!!

I think it would be good if you added more fields to our profiles so people can easily see basic information about each other, such as Class Year, High School Sports/Activities, etc.  This would help us to identify each other, especially those with common names.  Putting our class year next to our names with our postings would also be great.

I also think the photo section of the site is a great idea.  What do you think about letting others post comments under the photos?  Pictures can be good conversation starters, helping us remember events and places that impacted us (or that we'd rather forget!  Wink )  Just some thoughts... Smiley

It would be great if, on the member list, you had both first and last names.  People don't know  who anyone is with just a first name!

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!  It's invaluable in keeping this thing rolling.  Now, to address some issues:

The web site itself (ParkHillsGrads.com) is mine; I built it from the ground up.  Unfortunately, that does not apply to The Commons forum.  It's what's known as a "3rd Party" program, meaning somebody else wrote the script for it.  I just added it as an extra feature to the PHHS site.  I was able to customize it to an extent (colors, logo, etc), but as far as adding additional form fields, etc...I'm afraid you're out of luck.

That being said, there are a couple of things you can do so people can put names and faces together.  First, in your Commons profile, under the Display Name put your FIRST and LAST name, instead of just a first name or nickname.  If you haven't already done so, you can edit your profile and change this.  Also, USE YOUR PICTURE AS YOUR PROFILE AVATAR!  Either upload one of your own, of send me one and I'll add it for you.  By just doing these two things, people will be able to put a name with a face.

Then post to the thread "Introduce Yourself To The Commons" and let people know who you are, who you were, and what you're doing these days.  The rest of the "catching up" part is up to you...

Hope this helps...and keep those comments coming!

When I click on "Park Hills High School The Commons" above, it takes me to www.yabbforum.com.  Should it?

Great website!  Thanks!

Marvin:

First, GREAT to have you on board, and thanks for the compliments on the web site.  To answer your question:  Yes...and No.

While I built the web site for ParkHillsGrads.com myself, the forum (aka The Commons) is a third-party program that I added as an extra feature.  I did some heavy modifications to it to make it match the rest of the site.  One thing I forgot to do was change the default link from the original top graphic (the Viking at the top of the page).  Since you brought it to my attention, I have corrected the problem.

Thanks for the insight!

Name's Mike Chadwic - Just the first time I've come across the site.  What a surprise.... A good one!  I'm a '74 grad.  When I get a chance I will try to add more on myself as i doubt that any of you know or remember me.

Like most, I've disconnected with everyone from those days. ... hope that will change as more and more find this place.  That's if for the moment, but i will get back.

Thanks for the great job here...Ya Done good.
